Jennifer Lopez is honored at the MTV Movie & TV Awards

Jennifer Lopez gave an emotional speech on how both believers and skeptics have contributed to her success as she was presented with a career achievement award at Sunday’s MTV Movie & TV Awards .

“I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have brought me joy, as well as the one who made me feel sad — both the true-hearted and the liars. Lopez won this year’s Generation award to recognize actors who are known for their diverse roles. For her song “On My Way”, from “Marry Me”, she won best song, a category that was new.

MTV’s youth-focused celebration of film and TV offered a lighter, breezier awards show, with 26 categories in gender-neutral categories like best villain, best kiss and new category “here for the hookup.” After being recorded for many years, Vanessa Hudgens hosted the event. The ceremony was re-recorded in live form.

Lopez wept as she thanked her fans, longtime manager, and children for teaching “teaching” her to love, bringing cheers to the Barker Hangar, Santa Monica, California.

“I want to thank the people who gave me this life,” said Lopez, 52, later adding, “You’re only as good as the people who you work with. They can make your life better if they are lucky. That’s what I have been immensely fortunate in.”
