What is monkeypox, and how concerned should we be about the virus? Cameron Wolfe, an infectious-disease expert at Duke University, explains what we know about the rare virus, now confirmed in the United States and Europe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent out an alert last week warning doctors and other health professionals to stay on the lookout for this rare virus. Monkeypox can spread to humans and animals from Central and West Africa. However, recent outbreaks in France, the United Kingdom and other countries suggest that the virus is spreading throughout the country.
